Overview

The Minor in Asian Studies, offered by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, helps prepare students for careers that require linguistic proficiency and cultural knowledge.

Students are required to take at least two semesters of Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Language courses are incorporated into a program of study comprising required and elective Asia-focus content courses in several disciplines, such as literature, religion, history, political science, sociology and anthropology.

Residency Requirement: Students who declare a College of Liberal Arts' minor must complete at least half of the program at Temple University. This minor requires 24 credits or 8 courses; at least 4 courses must be taken at Temple University.

Minimum Grade and GPA Requirements: A minimum grade of C- must be earned in all courses in the minor as well as a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the discipline to earn this credential.

Restrictions: The minor in Asian Studies is not available to students majoring in Asian Studies.

Minors are awarded only at the time of completion of the bachelor's degree and cannot be awarded either as a stand-alone program of study or after completion of the first bachelor's degree.
