Overview
The Minor in Sociology is offered by the Department of Sociology. Sociology is the study of human behavior in the context of the groups, organizations, institutions and societies in which it occurs.
Sociology majors and minors are encouraged to participate in the Sociology Undergraduate Majors and Minors Association (SUMMA), which hosts academic, community service and social events throughout the year. The department provides opportunities for students to present their work.
Residency Requirement: Students who declare a College of Liberal Arts' minor must complete at least half of the program at Temple University. This minor requires 6 courses (18 credits); at least 3 courses must be taken at Temple.
Minimum Grade and GPA Requirements: A minimum grade of C- must be earned in all courses in the minor as well as a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the discipline to earn this credential.
Restrictions: Students may not combine this program with the following CLA programs:
- BA in Liberal Studies
- BA in Sociology
- BA in Sociology (Health Track Option)
- Minor in Sociology of Health
Minors are awarded only at the time of completion of the bachelor's degree and cannot be awarded either as a stand-alone program of study or after completion of the first bachelor's degree.
