Overview
The Minor in Classical Languages and Literature is offered by the Department of Religion and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. This is an interdisciplinary field of study which encompasses multiple disciplines of the liberal arts: languages, history, literature, art and philosophy. Students in this program are strongly encouraged to study a semester at Temple's Rome Campus.
Residency Requirement: Students who declare a College of Liberal Arts' minor must complete at least half of the program at Temple University. This minor requires a minimum of 18 credits and 6 courses; at least 3 courses must be taken at Temple.
Note: Students who have placement tests waiving one or more 4-credit lower-level language courses may replace them with a 3-credit upper-level elective course with approval of their chairperson or faculty advisor.
Minimum Grade and GPA Requirements: A minimum grade of C- must be earned in all courses in the minor as well as a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the discipline to earn this credential.
Restrictions: Students may not combine this program with the following CLA programs:
- Minor in Ancient Mediterranean Studies
- BA in Classics with a concentration in Classical Civilizations
- BA in Classics with a concentration in Languages and Literature
- BA in Liberal Studies
Minors are awarded only at the time of completion of the bachelor's degree and cannot be awarded either as a stand-alone program of study or after completion of the first bachelor's degree.
