Overview

The Minor in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies is housed within the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program, which offers students an interdisciplinary curriculum taught by faculty from various departments and other schools and colleges across the university. Students learn to apply the methods and theories of social scientists, historians, philosophers, film and literary critics, and legal analysts to the study of women's experiences, as well as gender, sexuality and trans identities.

Residency Requirement: Students who declare a College of Liberal Arts' minor must complete at least half of the program at Temple University. This minor requires 7 courses (21 credits); at least 4 courses must be taken at Temple.

Minimum Grade and GPA Requirements: A minimum grade of C- must be earned in all courses in the minor as well as a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the discipline to earn this credential.

Restrictions: Students may not combine this program with the following CLA programs:

  • BA in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies
  • BA in Liberal Studies

Minors are awarded only at the time of completion of the bachelor's degree and cannot be awarded either as a stand-alone program of study or after completion of the first bachelor's degree.

Curriculum Overlap Policy: Students combining a minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies and a major, minor, or certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies may double-count for both programs only Field Work (GSWS 4389 or LGBT 4489) and Queer Lives (GSWS 2405 or LGBT 2405).
